The administrative team and I are excited about the opportunities of another school year. We are certain that this year will be filled with many rewarding and valuable endeavors.
Sussex Central High School has continued with our highly rigorous academic programs and we are very pleased with our teachers’ efforts and our students’ successes. Our teachers have continued their work to promote 21st century college and career readiness skills to all our students. Additionally, last year, Sussex Central witnessed the largest number of students receiving college and career ready qualifying scores on the SAT, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) assessments. Congratulations students and staff! We truly believe that the increased focus and time devoted to mathematics instruction, implementation of literacy in all classrooms, fidelity to Learning Focused Strategies, and our commitment to the learning of all students are the cornerstones of our success. We are excited to continue building on these accomplishments in order to provide the students of SCHS with a superior education.
Our teachers have continued efforts in preparing lessons to intellectually challenge students, organizing their classrooms to create optimum environments for learning, and working with their Professional Learning Communities to support student success. This time has proved invaluable as our teachers are well prepared for each day of school. I would like to thank the countless number of teachers and specialists who participated in professional development throughout the school year. Our mission states, “Sussex Central High School, a diverse and dynamic community, strives to prepare students to be life-long learners and responsible global citizens.” The work of our staff serves as a model for our students, as we are all continuous learners, focused on service to the community and families we serve.
Sussex Central continues to offer more AP courses than any other high school in Sussex County and we are excited to welcome another cohort of International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme students. What’s more, each school year, our school’s cohort of IB Diploma Programme students continues to grow, and we have been honored to have more students earning the coveted IB Diploma year after year. Consequently, several students were awarded full scholarships and our graduates tallied a cumulative total of scholarship awards in excess of $4,500,000 last spring! We look forward to many new and exciting opportunities in the current school year; including our academic offerings, as well as our highly competitive athletic teams, our award winning visual and performing arts programs, and the dozens of other clubs and student organizations for which Sussex Central has become renowned. Sussex Central students are truly active participants in a number of extra-curricular opportunities. I would urge all students to become involved in one or more extra-curricular activities. Let’s Go Golden Knights!
We look forward to continued success in another school year with you and our students. Please check out our district calendar, our website, or contact our main office for information related to Sussex Central High School.
