The Common Application

The Common Application is a not-for-profit organization that serves students and member institutions by providing an admission application – online and in print – that students may submit to any of our 415 colleges or universities. This allows students to send the same application to several colleges or universities without having to refill out the application each time.

Steps on how to apply online

  1. Go to www.commonapp.org to register if you are not already registered for the common application.
  2. The middle display box will say APPLY! Click on Never Registered?  To register.
    1. You are applying as a first year (student).
    2. Fill out all the questions on the page and then create a user name and password- REMEMBER TO WRITE IT DOWN!
    3. Upon registration, you will receive a set of confirmation emails from appsupport@commonapp.net. Please be sure to add this email address to your address book and/or safe list to prevent the messages from being blocked as "spam."
  3. Although you have now completed the application, remember that each college or university you apply to may ask for additional questions and or essays, so be prepared when submitting your applications!!!
