
It is hard to believe it is already time to begin the selection process for our IRSD 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year! This process begins with each building engaging in the nomination and building selection TOY process.
Below are the procedures for nomination and selection of the Teacher of the Year. In the selection process, emphasis needs to be placed on finding the best representative/spokesperson for the teaching profession, the Indian River School District, and is an expert in their field who guides students of all backgrounds and abilities to achieve excellence.
Candidates must meet the following state criteria:
1. The candidate must be a teacher who teaches classes. (Librarians may be considered if they have regularly assigned classes they teach. Counselors, nurses, paraprofessionals, and therapists are not eligible for this particular recognition.)
2. The candidate must have taught, continuously or intermittently, for an accumulative period of three years or more in a Delaware public school, preferably in our District.
3. The candidate must have been formally nominated and be actively teaching in our district for the duration of the year of their nomination. In order to be the District Teacher of the Year, the teacher needs to continue to actively teach in our district during the 2022-2023 school year and continue to actively teach in our district for the duration of the year of their nomination.
4. The candidate must be fully certified and hold a valid and current license in the area he/she teaches.
5. Teachers recognized as the Indian River District Teacher of the Year within the past three (3) years are not eligible. Teachers who have been selected as a Building Teacher of the Year but were not chosen as the District Teacher of the Year are eligible to be selected as a Building Teacher of the Year again.
*****Nominations are due to Aerin Donovan, ([email protected]) by 2/23/23 on the form provided. Candidates will be notified by 2/24/23. Candidate interviews will be on 2/28 & 3/1. Selected SCHS TOY will be required to attend a district level meeting on Tuesday, March 4th at 4pm. The meeting will be via zoom with a link sent directly to the successful candidate. Usually, this meeting takes and hour or less, depending on the questions received.
